Have you ever been excited to find asparagus for sale, only to bring it home to find out it was imported from Mexico or California? The Cooking with Soul group was determined to find real Ontario asparagus. And in May, asparagus is one of the few vegetables available locally. Such a spring treat for some!
A small group arrived at The St. Lawrence Market. They talked with farmers about the asparagus, eggs, and locally cured ham. What better way to find out about the food we eat than to talk to the people who grow it or produce it. What is this year’s growing season like? When were the eggs laid? When was the ham cured? The next step - preparation. The chosen recipe - Asparagus Bread - a Canadian Living recipe with a side of greenhouse greens and ramp dressing.
This would be a cooking class with a difference. We’d be Cooking with Soul.
